It's not piracy that's killing music. It's the way the labels are destroying music with dynamic compression (to make it "louder") and making it intolerable to listen to, regardless of your tastes.The destruction they're wreaking on music and our entire musical heritage (as they go through their archives and "remaster" every recording) can't be overstated. When you turn music into a wall of noise, the result is listener fatigue. Have you noticed that it's no fun to turn music up anymore? That it's hard to find the right volume; one click down is too soft, the next click up is too loud? That mashups always rely on older tunes, because there's no room in current recordings to mix another song into? That you just don't get into really catchy songs the way that you used to?Yep, that's what's killing music. Well the issue with all this is not just the fact that the E.U. has basically put down laws that blanket every country in Europe, but the fact that governments around the world are starting to see the internet as a society in of it's self. What happens when you have a society that has very little control over it? The "powers that be" want to place rules, boundaries, laws, etc... on that society so that they feel that they have control of it's population (i.e. big brothers watching you, or the movie V for Vendetta) . Bad part about all this is, is that it's millions of people verses the few big businesses. We all know the arguments on it "They just want to keep the rich, richer and the poor, poorer", and the many other arguments that we have heard over the past few years since Lars Ulrich started the whole copyright thing with napster. We all have been reading the diggs about the "Secret Anti-Piracy Treaty" that is going on right now. If you look at the idea of it as a whole it wont work. We all know once the ISP's have to start shutting people off of the internet, and the big bells of the world start to go under. The government(s) decided that they need to kick people of the world wide network for so called "copy right infringements" they will start to go "no more we are losing to much money". You know the first one to start that up will be AT&T since they are basically the only big bell left out there. Once the little ISP's start shutting down, because of this whole thing. They start to lose money off of the leasing of the lines everything will go to crap, and you will start to see laws getting passed to abolish this ridiculous way of thinking. Hopefully at that time big businesses will start to adopt new business models to fit will the changing times.?
